Motorola Updates MOTOTRBO Portfolio

Petaling Jaya, 21 June 2012: As part of the industry-leading MOTOTRBO™ portfolio of radios, accessories, applications and systems, Motorola Solutions Malaysia adds on new portable XiR P8600 and mobile radios XiR M8600 series to a growing family of devices, giving Malaysian customers a choice of different form factors and feature sets.

To date, analog two-way radios have reached a high innovation point and as technology evolves, today’s market requires a new platform to break through to new levels of performance and productivity. With this, digital technology is the platform that serves the future needs of the industry. Motorola Solutions has been leading the industry’s move towards digital standards since 2007 when MOTOTRBO™ was launched as its digital radio technology.

MOTOTRBO™ digital radios are designed to meet the communication needs of customers in the field of transportation and logistics, manufacturing, Oil, Gas & Utilities, hospitality and services and public services industries.

Some of the key trends observed in the industry include:

Industry is moving towards radios shipped being digital. Based on Digital Mobile Radio Association, by 2018 all radios shipped is to comply with digital standards
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) narrowbanding mandate goes into effect Jan 1 2013
Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) strongly encouraging the migration to digital for better spectrum utilization.

Phyllis Lin, Area Sales Director, Radio Channel, South & East Asia, Motorola Solutions said, “We expect the demand for digital two-way radios to increase exponentially as market adoption for digital radios, applications and solutions grows. Today, applications are also key in helping to drive the growth and usage of digital two-way radios in the market. Digital technology applications open up a whole new world of possibilities that were unthinkable in the analog radio era. “

“There are many applications and solutions that can cater to the needs of different users from different industries and markets. Professional radios today are designed to be a comprehensive solution for enterprise use, with applications tailored to meet customer needs. They are productivity and efficiency enablers that go well beyond secure voice communication to data based solutions,” Phyllis added.

Some of the key examples include:

MOTOTRBO digital radio using telemetry data which can control external devices like alarms or gates and extends the radio to become a more flexible tool for use as a command and control device, making workers more productive than ever before.

Data applications on the digital two-way radios can include:

Indoor and outdoor location tracking for improved fleet management

Work order ticket management for better response times to customer requests

Telephone inter-connect where the radio can operate with landline phones and dispatch capability for centralized access to mobile work teams. With a man-down application, the radio can even automatically notify the dispatch if the radio falls at a certain angle at a certain rate of speed so the radio will call for help even when the worker is unable, helping to improve worker safety. The list goes on and on and all of these advanced applications, made available through a transition to digital, can extend the radio beyond just voice communication and make it part of an IT enabled enterprise.

The new radios introduced today also aim to further transform the industry by delivering exceptional voice and data communications with best-in-class audio that includes Intelligent Audio and customisable voice announcement, integrated GPS and text messaging.

At the moment, Motorola Solutions has 73 licensed developers for Asia Pacific and over 300 across the globe for two-way radio applications and solution development.

“We have been supporting the developer community eco system in growing and incubating developers through various engagement platforms over the last 5 years, with events such as Motorola’s annual developer conference. These platforms and tools that Motorola Solutions provide helps to further expand two-way radio applications and solutions development in the market,” Phyllis further explained.

In Malaysia, Motorola Solutions is also introducing its MOTOTRBO™ Mobile Experience Center with the objective to share and further educate customers about digital solutions and applications that are possible for businesses to enhance productivity.

This Mobile Experience Center provides on-location response to customers’ requests including consultation, system installation, radio maintenance and servicing such as optimising and tuning two-way radios.
