| Samsung Brings Hope For Children In Malaysia |
| |
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – 25 July 2012 – Samsung Malaysia Electronics Sdn. Bhd. today launched its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) campaign, ‘Samsung Hope For Children, Inspiring Better Futures’. This initiative is part of its global CSR programme, ‘Samsung Hope for Children’, committed to raising the quality of life for people everywhere. In Malaysia, Samsung aims to reach out and impact the lives of underprivileged children through its programme, “Inspiring Better Futures”.
Working with its NGO partner, CyberCare Youth Organisation (CyberCare), Samsung Malaysia’s ‘Inspiring Better Futures’ comprises a specially developed programme where the children are empowered and equipped with skills that offer educational enhancement as well as personal development and growth.
The programme consists of 3 stages:
Equipping the children with essential ICT skills.
Coaching the children with Life Skills
Conducting a community project to promote interaction and engagement between the children and the community.
A pivotal part of this programme is the establishment of the Samsung Tech Central at Rumah Sayangan in Cheras. Samsung Tech Central is a fully equipped resource centre where children can enjoy a stimulating learning environment utilising the equipment available. The children will be able to familiarise themselves with the digital world, complete with the knowledge of not only how to edit, write and create presentations, but also to connect with the world through the latest technology. At the same time, they will be guided by trained life coaches and ICT trainers.
These trainers cum coaches are employees of Samsung Malaysia Electronics who signed on as volunteers to work alongside these children and nurture their growth in of this pilot programme involving 30 children from Rumah Sayangan and Cornerstone Home. The volunteers are fully dedicated to offer their experience, intelligence, time and enthusiasm for these kids.

The launch of the Samsung Tech Central was joyously shared by some 100 kids from underprivileged children homes in the vicinity. This proved as a testimony to the excitement among the children as they excitedly chatted about the journey of learning new skills. One of the kids shared, “I am really looking forward to begin my lessons. Almost everyone at school owns a computer in their homes and I am so happy I will be able to have one in my home, too!” The children were truly excited when they met the volunteers from Samsung. The children bonded well and showed enthusiasm when the volunteers had a trial session at the home.
Speaking about the Inspiring Better Futures programme and the Samsung Tech Central, Mr. Kwon Jae Hoon, Managing Director of Samsung Malaysia Electronics said,
“As Samsung employees, we are committed to working together in Inspiring Better Futures so we can affect change. We look forward to transform the lives of the children by giving them opportunities to better themselves. We aim to create impacts that are deep enough on the children’s lives so that they in turn, can one day contribute back to the community.”
Adding on to this, Elaine Soh, Senior Manager, Corporate Marketing, Samsung Malaysia Electronics said, “Today’s launch is just the first leg in our commitment to underprivileged children in Malaysia. Samsung’s Inspiring Better Futures initiative will be expanded to reach many more children in different parts of the nation. We believe in inspiring these young lives and giving them a shot at making lives better for themselves in future.”
